About

Two careers.
One slightly unusual CV.

By day, Tim is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery. Away from medicine, he writes songs, musical theatre and rock music.

The two worlds may appear rather different, but both involve creativity, collaboration, performance and an unhealthy obsession with getting small details right.

Medicine

Orthopaedic surgery

Tim is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, including primary and complex joint replacement.

He was appointed as a consultant in 2008 and works in both NHS and independent practice in and around London.

He has a particular interest in robotic and computer-assisted hip and knee replacement surgery, using technology to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of joint replacement.

Tim is regularly invited to teach and train surgeons in these techniques around the world, as well as lecturing internationally on hip and knee replacement surgery.

Humanitarian work

Surgery in Vietnam

Tim has also taken part in humanitarian surgical work in Vietnam, helping to provide hip and knee surgery to patients who might otherwise have limited access to specialist joint replacement care.

Working alongside local and international colleagues has been one of the most rewarding parts of his surgical career.

Musical Theatre
Le Pétomane – The Musical

Le Pétomane

The extraordinary true story of a baker who became one of the most famous performers in Paris.

Le Pétomane – The Musical is Tim’s original musical based on the life of Joseph Pujol, the celebrated Moulin Rouge performer whose remarkable and rather unusual talent made him a sensation in late nineteenth-century Paris.

Beneath the eccentric premise is a story about ambition, family, self-acceptance, the fleeting nature of fame and ultimately finding home again.

Paris Is Calling

FINALIST — 2026 STILES + DREWE BEST NEW SONG PRIZE

“Paris Is Calling”, from Le Pétomane – The Musical, was selected as a finalist for the 2026 Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize.

The song will be performed live by West End stars at The Other Palace, London, in October 2026, as part of the Stiles + Drewe Best New Song Prize concert.

The song comes at a turning point in Joseph’s story. Having entertained his fellow soldiers during his time in the army, he returns to Marseilles and the familiar world of the family bakery — but Paris is beginning to call.

Music

Rock songs, guitars and loud choruses.

Tim has written music for many years alongside his medical career. His songwriting ranges from musical theatre to melodic rock and pop, with a particular fondness for strong melodies, storytelling and choruses designed to be played rather loudly.

No Wiser

No Wiser is a female-fronted rock project featuring songs written by Tim Waters, including releases such as Own Shoes and Believing.

No Time Wasters

No Time Wasters is a new music project from Tim, providing another home for his rock songwriting and recordings.

No Time Wasters

A new outlet for Tim’s rock songwriting, sitting alongside No Wiser while giving a different collection of songs its own identity.

Trabecular Sound

Independent music

Tim releases his independent music through Trabecular Sound, the label behind his recorded music projects.

The name may betray the fact that its founder spends rather a lot of his working life thinking about bone.
